Blog 16: 2-Hour Meeting Answer #2

Content:

1. What is your essential question?
  • What is the best way for an overweight teenager to reach a healthy weight?
2. What is your second answer to your essential question (write your second answer in a complete sentence)?
  • The best way for an overweight teenager to reach a healthy weight, is to make being active and healthy a lifestyle.
3. What are three details to support or justify your second answer (details are examples or facts)?
  • Losing weight is a long process. Someone who is 50lbs overweight will take more than six months to reach their goal weight, if they keep a strict diet and exercise regimen. If the person reverts to their old lifestyle, then they will regain weight.
  • Fad diets and/or "quick fix" plans set people up for failure.
  • Teenagers with diseases like type 2 diabetes, that resulted from the excess in weight, will be able to tame their diseases and live longer.
4. What source helped you prove this answer is justified for your essential question?
5. What do you plan to study next with your second answer and why? (You would say "I plan to continue my study of answer 2 by doing ____________"?)
  • I plan to continue my study of answer 2 by doing research on how to adapt to a different setting, in this case lifestyle, easier. I would also like to contact a personal trainer, nutritionist, or therapist to see how one would deal with such big changes, both physically and emotionally, in their life.

Blog 15: Independent Component 2 Plan Approval

CONTENT:
(1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.
  • I plan on making a fitness plan for one week, and following it. The fitness plan includes an exercise regimen and nutritional meal guidelines to follow. The goal is to lose 1-2 pounds at the end of the
week, which is a healthy amount of weight to lose each week, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and my summer mentor Valerie Flloyd.
(2) Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.
  • There are more than 30 hours in one week, however, I will only take in account 5 hours each day. 2 hours for each workout, 1 hour of planning, and 2 hours for making/preparing my meals. I will include one rest day, as every good fitness plan should, and taking away the two hours for that workout, I will end up with a total of 33 hours.
(3) How does your independent study component relate to your working EQ?
  • This relates to my essential question because it relates to an answer for my essential question, which is to "make a fitness plan, and stick to it" therefore, I shall use this independent component as a way to see the efficiency of my answer.
